Art Gallery of Ontario

On Valentine's Day I was able to finally visit one of the largest museums of North America (Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO)) for the first time. Truthfully, I am not a huge fan of history and how things were made/created, however, something about the ancient Egyptian history (between 16th century B.C. to 11th century B.C.) I find extremely fascinating. From who the pharaohs worshiped, to the interesting calligraphy drawings/paintings that were discovered and translated, and ultimately, Cleopatra's and King Tutankhamun's artifacts that were discovered, which evidently proved their existence. 

This exhibit was not only based on the ancient Egyptian history, but King Tut's himself. Unfortunately, upon arrival I was informed that the King Tut Exhibit was sold out. Although there was definite disappointment because this exclusive exhibit is only available until April 18th, 2010, I still took this golden opportunity to explore the seventy-three thousand works in the museum's collection by famous artists such as: Group of Seven, Ken Thomson (1923-2006), Thomas Hart Benton, George Kenneth Hartwell, Henry Moore, and many more. All collections told their story in such a creative and unique form that it was absolutely mesmerizing. 

If you're not one whom understands arts, I would not exactly recommend for you to attend, only because you wont appreciate it as much as others would which will result in your own disappointment. However, for those who ARE interested in the different forms of art (whether it be European, American, Contemporary, Egyptian etc.) and is open to new ideas, I highly recommend for you to GO to the AGO.

52nd Grammy Awards - Michael Jackson

On Sunday January 31^st, 2010, television networks aired the 52^nd Annual Grammy awards hosted in Los Angeles. Me along with millions of viewers, witnessed the amazing performances collaborated with different performers. Lady Gaga with Elton John, Jeff Beck, Drake, Eminem, Jamie Foxx, Lil Wayne, and T-Pain were some of the few performers who performed that night. Majority of the performances I personally thought were wonderful to watch. However, the one performance that I absolutely loved (and I’m sure many people agree with me) was the “Earth Song” by Michael Jackson, sung by Celine Dion, Usher, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson. (Check out the video below) The combination with all performers was definitely random it seemed, but each performer had such unique talent that the entire performance was memorizing. With the assorted performers that sung “Earth Song”, was amazing to witness the variety of individuals that came together and may their respects to one individual’s talent that will never be forgotten.

Once Michael Jackson, “King of Pop” passed away, many more music fans appreciated his music a lot more (including myself). I say this because I enjoyed Michael’s songs growing up, though never really gave him the amount of credit he deserved. Now knowing that he was an individual whom was part of each every aspect of his performances and productions (chorography, backstage lighting etc.), it is such a shame to lose such great talent in the music industry.

Rent - the broadway tour

Last night, Sunday January 24th, 2010, I experienced a classic musical that I have never seen before. Rent the musical had great reviews in the past, the story was transformed into a motion picture as well as its continuation of Broadway performances. Still with its reputation, I had absolutely no idea what the musical was about besides the fact that certain individuals were infected by the HIV virus and some were homosexuals. Already having very little knowledge of the musical, I was told by many people that it was a "Must See" performance. 

Before Rent's performance commenced, I was informed that the cast members who played 'Mark' & 'Roger' were the original members of the first cast when this musical was first introduced in 1996. As the original cast members, Anthony Rapp as Mark Cohen & Adam Pascal as Roger Davis, walked on stage the audience erupted in applause and I felt fortunate enough to fully appreciate the magnitude of the moment. I experienced the laughs, the sadness, the joys, and especially the love with this performance. 

For those who are interested in mesmerizing live entertainment, I highly recommend to purchase Rent tickets for this weekends performance, since it will be the last weekend Rent is in Toronto. (If not, check out the movie!)

My Blog Title

It took me some time to actually come up with a blog title. A lot of people suggested to me to either use a nick name, or a hobby. Neither of those options gave me any interest because for once I wanted to be a little bit on the creative side. Thankfully, a special someone in my life gave me the last option of quoting lyrics or a song title from a band. I thought it was genius! So my blog is titled "Pieces of Me" because of this new band I fell in love with called Two Foot Falls. Hands down one of my top 3 songs from this INCREDIBLE rock/pop band.
